We suggest that flower beds and other mulched areas contain at least a 2 to 3 inch layer of mulch. Mulch breaks down over time and will become thinner and thinner, so we recommend installing new mulch every season or whenever the layer gets to be below 2 inches.   Also note that some mulch types will break down faster than others, thus requiring new mulch more frequently than once a year.
